BP PR gaffes affecting British businesses in USA
Businesses often suffer from the antics of other businesses, regardless of how thin the connection between them. And it's often not the kind of damage that can be compensated for using business insurance.
William Chase, the millionaire potato farmer who's Chase Vodka won gold at a recent San Francisco spirits competition, spoke about the damage that BP's PR blunders are doing to British businesses in the US. Chase, who sold his Tyrrells Crisps business back in 2008 to start Chase Vodka, slated BP CEO Tony Hayward's decision to leave the US to attend a yacht racing weekend at the Isle of Wight last weekend.
Mr Chase said that "he's made PR mistake after mistake and the result is that business is five times more difficult in the US than it should be for British brands"
Of course damage of this sort is hard to quantify, making it an unlikely candidate for a business insurance claim. The only thing that organisations can do is make sure that tangible risks are covered when shopping around for business insurance quotes.
